ABRSM Piano Diploma Seminar by Emeritus Professor Edward Ho

From 15 to 17 April, Yamaha Music was honored to host a three-day seminar by Emeritus Professor Edward Ho at Concorde Hotel, focusing on ABRSM Piano Diplomas – LRSM and FRSM in Piano Performance, and ARSM and LRSM in Piano Teaching.

Professor Ho, one of the region’s most respected music educators, delivered the sessions with clarity, insight, and warmth. Teachers were guided through diploma requirements, performance expectations, and teaching approaches, supported by a wealth of useful materials.

Participants received annotated scores, recommended repertoire for LRSM/FRSM, teaching materials for Grades 1–8, pedaling notes for Grades 4–8, and guidance on assessment criteria. A focused Q&A session on the Viva Voce was especially appreciated.

The seminar sparked meaningful discussions, and participants expressed sincere appreciation for Professor Ho’s generosity and practical insights.

A Yamaha C3 grand piano was used throughout the seminar. Professor Ho praised the instrument’s responsiveness and extended thanks to Yamaha’s technician for adjusting the sustain pedal to nine nuanced levels to suit demonstration needs.

On the final day, a former student shared a heartfelt tribute, recalling Professor Ho’s influence since the 1980s. A song specially written for him was performed in gratitude, moving all present.

Even before the sessions concluded, teachers were already asking when Professor Ho might return. Yamaha Music is deeply thankful for his enduring contributions and to all educators who made this event so special.
