WHY YAMAHA DRUMS?

When asked why he signed with Yamaha, Bom explained that Yamaha Drums have been with him since the start of his drumming journey. As a child, he would hit things around him with chopsticks, like any other kid. Slowly, his parents realized his affinity for music and sent him to join the Chinese Orchestra at school. One thing led to another, and he found himself behind a Yamaha drum set, unaware that one day he would be signed by the same brand.

WHAT YAMAHA DRUMS DOES BOM USE?

Bom is now supported by the Yamaha Recording Custom Brass Snare Drum, which helps him cut through the mix and fill large arena shows. He also requests Yamaha Live Custom Oak Drums on his tech rider, a fitting hardwood drum kit that supports Mandopop giants.

BOM LOW'S DRUMMING PHILOSOPHY

Beyond performances, Bom is deeply committed to music education. His teaching style is approachable and grounded, making him a popular choice among students. When asked about his drumming philosophy, he commented that the common belief that drums are a noisy instrument shouldn’t be accepted. Just like the piano or guitar, drums should be able to portray the emotions of the player behind the kit. While limited in terms of notes, drums have the space between the notes.

For instance, a drummer may choose to rush ahead of the beat to convey excitement or lay back behind it to evoke a sense of dragging one's feet, all while maintaining the groove to serve the song. Thus, drumming is not merely about keeping time but expressing what time means to the artist. Bom described his first experience playing the 2000s Yamaha Oak Customs as incomparable to any drum set, he had played before.

PLAYING SHOWS IN ARENAS WITH MANDARIN POP ICONS

Bom remains an active performer in the local scene, playing regular gigs at venues like Simply Retro at Clarke Quay by Tin Box, and participating in international tours, including Angela Zhang’s world tour. He describes the experience of playing huge arena tours for big Mandopop acts as an incredible journey. While it can be tiring, it is also fulfilling, allowing him to perform in front of tens of thousands of people—an experience not many drummers get to have, and one he will remember for the rest of his life. Bom emphasizes that when faced with such experiences, it is important to stay present and enjoy the moment.

His continued presence on stage and in educational settings underscores his dedication to the craft of drumming, now under the prestigious badge of Yamaha Drums.
