How to Setup a Wireless Home Theatre System
The best home theatre systems often involve multiple speakers arranged around your preferred seating position. These are usually passive speakers and need cables that are connected to an AV Receiver to power them.
This often means that some level of renovation is required to hide the wires.
What if you’d rather not waste the time, effort and money for such a project?
Then, it’s time to go wireless.
Some Wires Still Required
Let’s get this out of the way first – to get the best out of your home theatre, we recommend using wires to connect your home theatre system to your movie sources.
For example, to enjoy movies with the latest Dolby Atmos tracks you need a HDMI connection. Wireless connections like Bluetooth will not allow your smart TV, Streaming Box and Blu-Ray Player to send Multi-Channel sound and Dolby Atmos data to your soundbar or home theatre receiver.
Also, speakers require power. “Traditional” passive speakers are powered by the amplifiers via the speaker cables.
Wireless speakers are either battery powered and require charging, or they need to be plugged into a nearby power outlet.
With that out of the way, let’s see how we can cut some wires from your home theatre setup!
Soundbars: Wireless Subwoofer
A Wireless Subwoofer is the most mature and readily available wireless solution for soundbars. These days, even basic soundbars come with wireless subwoofers by default!
Wireless subwoofers give you much more flexibility when it comes to placement. Most are also plug and play! Just plug in the power, switch on, and they are ready to go as they have already been paired in the factory.
Yamaha’s B, C, and True X Series Soundbars all come with wireless subwoofer options.
Soundbars: Wireless Rear Surround Speakers
The biggest wiring pain in home theatre speakers involve the surround speakers. These are the speakers that are positioned to the side, back, and even the ceiling, to envelope you in sound.
This is easily solved by getting soundbar systems that include Wireless Surround Speakers, like Yamaha’s True X Series Soundbar System.
With the True X Soundbars, you have the option of getting 1 or (preferably) 2 compact wireless speakers to experience True X Surround.
Unlike most other Wireless Surround speakers, the True X Wireless Surround speakers are extremely flexible as they are battery-powered and can also be used as Bluetooth speakers.
Not watching movies now? Just press 1 button, and they transform into water-resistant Bluetooth speakers that you can bring anywhere.
No space for permanent placement? The True X Speakers are battery powered and can last up to 10 hours per charge. So, when you’re in the mood for movies, just power them up and put them at your favourite movie-viewing positions, then charge them later via USB-C wherever is convenient for you.
You can also get the optional CC-T1A charging dock so you can just pick them up and go!
And of course, with dedicated up-firing speakers built into the True X Soundbars, you can experience immersive Dolby Atmos movies without the need for additional speakers, wireless or otherwise.
